Upcoming event’s on Tom’s Road Racing Schedule:

Time to Strap on the Running Shoes

*Sunday September 5th : Anaheim Disneylands Half Marathon. I will be running my 198th road race at the” Happiest Place on Earth” .  Celebrating it’s 5th Anniversary the Disneyland half marathon runs through the theme park as well as Angel Stadium and winds its way back to the finish by the Disneyland  Hotel.  I am looking forward to this one as it will be a tempo practice run for my next Marathon on October 2nd in St. George Utah. Also I will have a “pacer”. My good friend Norma Thomas from Moreno Valley California will be running with me and she is really  fast ! She regularly wins her age group in big races around the country like Boston and Chicago. Can’t wait to race in Disneyland !

*Saturday October 3rd : St,George Marathon, St. George Utah, This has been a family favorite for many decades. We go to the race and then camp for a week or so in Zion National Park. If you have never been to “Zion” you are missing out on a gorgeous part of our country. The red rock canyon walls and the Virgin River running through it makes for one of the most exciting and breathtaking places to camp and hike. I am in the “20 year” club. This will be my 21st St. George Marathon. They bus you 26.2 miles out of town and you race back ! It’s a totally awesome and inspiring place to run.

Red’s Meadow

Red’s Meadow

Hi everyone ! The Historic Bar-B-Q at Reds Meadow on August 7th was great fun!

Hi everyone !  The Historic Bar-B-Q at Reds Meadow on August 7th was great fun! The setting was  in the middle of Red’s Meadow Pack Station right in the middle of the forest. The John Muir trail is not more that 100 yards away and Bob Tanner owner of Red’s was the host. My stage was a weathered wooden one about twelve feet square. Just enough room for a “One Man Band”! About 60 people were in attendance and a good time was had by all. Bob’s staff really knows how to put out a “Spread” complete with Peach and Apple Cobbler. It was really fun for me being in my element and sharing songs and stories about the Eastern Sierra. If you have never been on a Red’s Meadow Pack trip to one of the hundereds of back country lakes near- by you are really missing out. Bob’s staff does a real professional job of making sure that everything about the trip is perfect. Each year there are Bar-B-Q’s in August and early September . So come sometime and have dinner with us in the forest or take a horse- back ride or pack trip. You will be happy you did. Talk to you soon! Tom J
